Asbestos air monitoring involves taking samples of air from fixed locations, which are usually immediately outside the area where asbestos removal is taking place.

Air monitoring should be undertaken by a suitably competent person; who has appropriate qualifications, knowledge, skills and experience or by an asbestos assessor.

The Health and Safety Regulations require Asbestos air monitoring for friable asbestos removal work only (NSW, VIC & QLD).  However, the person who commissioned the removal work may request Asbestos air monitoring during removal of non- friable as part of their own procedures or where the asbestos removal is being undertaken in school or any other public location.

The Regulations in South Australia require air monitoring for licensed asbestos removal work for both Friable and non- Friable ( jobs over 10sqms) .
